The 2006 Harris campaign run for Congress is over. Harris received about a third of the vote against Bob Ney in May, and lost soundly in a field of five in a special replacement primary in September, taking a very distant second place. Although Harris did not raise money from donors or exceed minimal FEC spending limits, he did wage an energetic campaign of ideas to oppose government corruption, restrain government spending, lower tax rates and promote economic growth in Ohio.
Harris congratulates Congressman-elect Zack Space and the Republican nominee Joy Padgett, and is pleased that she joined Harris in signing the Americans for Tax Reform anti-tax pledge. Harris is pleased that he opposed corruption in 2006 and challenged the admitted felon Bob Ney, and believes that Ney's withdrawal gave his party an extra chance to keep the seat. Harris repeats his request to Zack Space and to all Ohio political leaders including Senator-elect Sherrod Brown, Senator Mike Dewine, and Senator George Voinovich to sign the ATR pledge and other good government pledges to limit taxation and to restrain out of control government spending.
The 2006 campaign for the Republican nomination continues, after Rep. Bob Ney withdrew his nomination on August 7th. James Brodbelt Harris received almost a third of Republican votes on May 2nd, and will continue to discuss with party leaders and voters how best he may serve the party and the state. The candidates for nomination will be determined and a special election will be held in the coming months. Please visit for regular updates on Ohio politics and new developments.
